House traps are a common plumbing device that were installed in homes that have a city or municipal sewer system. The trap is basically a u-piece of pipe that is installed most often where the main sewer terminates out of the home. It is designed to hold water, making a seal to prevent sewer gases from the main sewer system entering home. These “
house traps” were installed through-out the country until the 1980’s.
However, new plumbing practices incorporate individual venting for each
plumbing service
fixture out through the roof of the home so house traps are no longer necessary.

Our expert plumbers possess the knowledge and experience to ensure your house traps are functioning properly, preventing sewer line issues and maintaining a healthy plumbing system. Trust ASP for reliable house trap services.
What are dangers of house traps?
Being that house traps incorporate a u-shape design, it is extremely difficult and in some cases impossible to get a sewer snake or camera through them to access drain clogs or broken sewer lines. House traps have a tendency to rot out on the bottom of the traps which allows sediment, clay and debris from the ground to fill the trap, causing sewage and odors to back up into the residence. In many cases, if the house trap is rotted out, the sewer snake will break out the bottom of trap and bore into the ground and make it impossible to access a clog or camera sewer line between the residence and the street.
Solutions:
If your house trap needs replacing,
ASP
will remove the section of concrete over the house trap area, excavate down to the house trap and remove. Then a Y fitting will be installed with a cleanout access flush with floor that will allow for easy access to the main sewer line between residence and street if a clog develops in future.
